Meshaun's Story

On November 7, 2022, at the age of 12, Meshaun faced a daunting diagnosis: stage 3 intermediate-risk Spindle cell sclerosing Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma. Despite the gravity of the situation, Meshaun demonstrated extraordinary resilience. He endured a challenging journey that included tumor resection, 42 weeks of intensive chemotherapy, and 33 1/2 fractions of proton therapy. His case was further complicated by the presence of the rare Myo-d1 mutation VGLL2, and a single copy loss of TP53 a unique combination that left doctors with no established prognosis to follow.

Through a process of trial and error, Meshaun’s treatment was carefully tailored to his unique needs. Initially scheduled for an additional 52 weeks of maintenance therapy, his body, exhausted from the high doses of chemotherapy, could only withstand 13 weeks. Yet, in the face of such adversity, Meshaun’s spirit remained unbroken.

On January 12, 2024, clear scans brought the miraculous news that Meshaun had reached remission, officially declared on January 17, 2024. His journey, marked by strength and perseverance, became the cornerstone of MightyMeshaun, an organization founded to support pediatric cancer families.

Meshaun’s story is a testament to the power of hope, the importance of tailored medical care, and the unyielding human spirit. His journey inspires us all to keep fighting, to keep hoping, and to support one another through the toughest battles.

Gathering MightyCrusaders: We rally a dedicated team of volunteers to sew port-accessible shirts, embodying the spirit of community and hands-on support for those who need it most.
